Welcome to the "Red Workers" Message Board. "Red Workers" is a social oriented fan project group, established by Hapoel tel-aviv supporters. its goal is to create a social community between hapoel tel-aviv supporters. the main motto of this fan project is "supporters support supporters". a social community of mutual help between supporters. for an example - supporters who are students or teachers - help young supporters with their homework - free of charge. supporters who can offer employment to other fellow supporters, do it here.

I hope that you don't mind that I post these questions here. If you can answer them in the next 2 days we can publish the interview in our forthcoming edition of TAL Fanzine (which goes to the printer at the weekend). 'Tiocfaidh Ar La - For Celtic & Ireland'

We are the founders of Celtic Fans Against Fascism.

Fighting racism and fascism inside and outside of our club for 20 years (we were activated as a group of friends that objected and fought against the supporters of our club who racially abused the black rangers player Mark Walters in 1989). This was the lowest point for us as fans and activists, but in the interveneing years we completely reversed the situation and it is our work that laid the foundations for the progressive ultras groups that flourish today at Celtic.

The TAL Fanzine - 'Tiocfaidh Ar La - For Celtic & Ireland' - was founded in late 1991 and the first issue of the fanzine was sold at the New Year 1992 match when Celtic played rangers. The magazine soon established itself as the authentic voice of the republican-minded Celtic supporters who gathered in Glasgow every other Saturday to watch The Bhoys play. The fanzine has also appeared online in various forms in recent years.

When TAL was founded the term 'Tiocfaidh Ar La' (Our Day Will Come) seemed to sum up our hopes for our football club which was going through one of the most barren and trophyless periods of its history. The Irish phrase is one coined by republicans and expresses their desire for freedom and their struggle to establish a united 32 County democratic socialist republic in Ireland.

'Our Day Will Come' encapsulated everything that we felt about our club and the aspirations we felt for the country and the people that gave birth to it - Ireland. It was our forefathers - those Irish immigrants that fled famine and hunger to set up home in the hostile environments of the West of Scotland in the late 19th Century - who founded The Celtic Football Club.

And so it was: 'Tiocfaidh Ar La - For Celtic & Ireland'

This website will provide news, information and points of view about Celtic - 'the team we all adore!' - and the political issues that our supporters are most interested in - Irish republicanism, anti-racism & anti-fascism, fighting against 'sectarianism' (anti-Irish racism) and other political issues and politically progressive movements.

Sorry to post here again, but can you let me know if you will complete the interview as I have reserved pages for it in our fanzine which is now late for the printer because we wait your response.

I think it is important that Ultras Hapoel have their views represented in the fanzine because of the widely held views (and misconceptions?) about Israel and Palestine among our supporters who are largely unaware of left progressive fans at any club in Israel. You have the opportunity of putting your views across to thousands of our supporters.... many of whom do not look at ultras websites.

Either way, we will run an article on your club, but obviously without direct input from UH we cannot hope to represent your views properly or accurately, you must do that yourself... please.

I am currently live in London, UK, but originally from Sakarya. I am member of the supporters group called "Tatangalar". As we organised campaigns against Racism and Fascism, we face much discrimination and persecution by Turkish authorities.

Briefly, the Turkish oligarchy use every opportunity to crash its opposition, such as massacres, imprisonments, detentions, torture etc. Especially, since the1980 military coup, the dominant classes put their hands on football and its supporters. The football clubs in Turkey are being used by the Turkish government and its political parties as a tool to achieve their political goals. The nationalism, racism, hatred between minorities or religions are increased through football. The authorities especially in selected certain cities (like Sakarya, Trabzon and Bursa) impose their new order over football supporters. These cities mainly consist of different minorities, religions or cultures. The Turkification and nationalism were the main target.



However, as you presume, football is for working classes. Some elements from supporter groups stand for their class. These groups, all over Turkey, began standing against their status quo imposed by state. And many “leftist” supporters groups were created. Tatangalar is one of them. This group is NOT considered purely a leftist group, but what they have done so far (protesting USA/British invasion on Iraq and Afghanistan, mafia-government involvements in football, increased nationalism, government’s insufficient support for victims of earthquakes, even against environmental pollution by opposing the foundation of a factory within the city border etc), make them one of the most significant supporters group all over Turkey.



Unfortunately, the government’s response was very tough. Many supporters were detained, beaten, tortured and threatened with death or banned from attending matches (most recently one of the leading figure, Metin Dogrucan, was detained, beaten, prosecuted and most recently, he was banned from attending matches for 6 months). Sakaryaspor (once one of the leading teams from Anatolia) was relegated the 3rd tier, thanks to Turkish Football Federation and Turkish Authorities’ plots against the team.



As I mentioned, Tatangalar, is not a pure leftist supporter organisation. According to Turkish Police, Tatangalar was created and still lead by "extreme leftists". It is a fact that the movement of tatngalar gathered everyone (including liberals, religious people, apolitics or even some right wingers) under one umbrella, against nationalism, racism, bigotry, poverty, exploitation etc.

The banner "Yaşamak Direnmektir" means "To Live is to Resist". A very famous political slogan, used by revolutionaries (especially revolutionary prisoners).


ADALILAR is nick name for Revolutionary leaders who have been either killed in action or hanged by Turkish authorities in early 1970s.

The banner says "SEN NE GÜZELSİN EY KAVGAMIZIN ŞEHRİ" means "How beautiful you are, the city of our struggle". Another traditional proverb for resistance against fascism. This banner was used in the games between Sakaryaspor vs Bursaspor as Bursaspor supporters are known as extreme right wing nationalists.
