The transfer that the people of Omonoia have been waiting for has become a reality. Stathis Aloneutis returns to omonoia, according to news on Astra 92.8 (Peoples Radio). Aloneutis answered positively to the offer of Omonoia and he will wear again the shirt with the shamrock on his chest. The news have been confirmed by Marios Karamalakis (spokesman). As known Aloneutis, last season, played for Energy Cotbuss, and for two years before that he was in A.E.Larissa (Greece). After three years he returns to Omonoia. The information says the board of the Greens offered him a -royal- contract. His signing is a great success for the president of team Miltiadis Neofitou.

"Stathis Aloneftis (born on March 29, 1983, in Nicosia, Cyprus) is a Cypriot footballer. He is an attacking midfielder who tends to play on the left wing. He is highly regarded for his dribbling skills. He started his career with Omonia Nicosia, making his first appearance for the senior squad during the 2000-01 season however his real talent became apparent during 2003–04. His successes with Omonia include the championship and Super Cup (in 2001 and 2003) and the Cypriot Cup in 2005.

He moved to the Greek side, AEL Larissa in 2005 for a transfer fee CYP £136,000.[1] The season 2006-07 was good for Aloneftis and in January 2007 he went on trial to Queens Park Rangers, but nothing else has been confirmed.[2] At the end of the season he played with his team in the Cup final, where he was in the main beginning squad and his team beat 2-1 Panathinaikos FC and won the Cup. He is a regular pick for the Cyprus national football team.

On May 31, 2007 German side Energie Cottbus announced the signing of Aloneftis (Bosman ruling free transfer),[3] making him the first Cypriot to compete in the Bundesliga.[4]"

no other cyprus team has bought players like omonoia did for the coming season. 15 new transfers so far ! we spent over 5 million for them. the season must be ours !ok Uefa is an exhaggeration but its not impossible :)

I know what you mean but Omonoia needed to change. The board changed, and it was time for some players to 'hang their shoes' that the old board would not change. Last season we had several good transfers and 80 percent of them DIDNT EVEN PLAY !
15 transfers, quality players, all positions covered, and subs to cover them too.

Last season was the worst in our History.As a matter of fact it was one of the few seasons in 60 years of History which OMONIA finished below the first 2 spots on the board.

In this new season everything changed.The administration board,the players and in general,the mentality has changed...
Im not "flying" because of the 15-16 transfers,im not sure i like it.Afterall all these players have to be turned into an actual team.

At the end of the previous season the ""officials"" announced some measures regarding "fans behaviour" etc.
They came to the point of censor:
1)The banners(!)
2)The chants(!!)
3)The...clothes you wear to go to the stadium(!!!!!!!!!)

Im not sure what they'll do for this season.Most probably they'll think of some even more fascist measures.

Unfortunately,the new administration board and the majority of our fans didnt react to these.
We -Green Comrades- reacted,even sent letters to the papers etc (with no result,hm..i wonder why).

We have the UEFA Cup match (17/7) but next week there is the...friendly match between us and the scum in order to honour one of our players who is "hanging up his boots".

Both of the teams "need" eachother.Its the derby,there isnt a better match for the coaches to test our teams.

And of course its a match that will attract thousands of fans and therefore the retiring player will have some good profits

The derby between Omonia and the scum was postponed for after the European match, because GSP Stadium is not ready to host such friendly. The friendly will be played in honour of an Omonia defender which will stop football. This is tradition in Cyprus, but I think in many parts of the world, to play a honour match to good bye a player. For that player, it is honour that the two best teams of Cyprus play for him. I understand that in Israel there can not be a friendly derby but it depends on the society. In Cyprus we are not in such way to not play even friendly. Also fans and officials of team may think different. It is also a good test for both teams.

Omonia played already 4 friendlies in Slovenia, where is prepared. First friendly we crushed 12-1 a second division team of the country, the second one we lost by Vojvodina 1-0, the third 1-1 against the Slovenian Champions Domzale and the last one against the Slovenian team Drava 3-3.

The 'Friendly' game that was arranged between OMONOIA and the unnamed, in order to honour OMONOIAs player Akis Ioakeim, has been canceled for 'safety' reasons.
Unnamed asked for game to take place after the european games.
OMONOIA decided to play with Ethnikos to honour our player.

In my opinion the unnamed did not want to suffer a humiliating defeat and pulled out. or maybe they just wanted to protect their fans
